The most nerve racking thing was getting out of the car park without crashing. The ride to Niagara falls was our biggest stint for the trip. The large amount of miles, coupled with our inexperience, fuel stops and road works put us into Niagara Falls around midnight. We all slept in the next morning, toured the amazing spectacle that is the falls and hit the road around mid day.
We arrived into Windsor Canada at around 4:30 pm, a fantastic days ride to a beautiful destination. We stopped at a park by the river looking out toward Detroit, reflecting on a great days ride. A Parking inspector was called to move some bikes and an old bus, but when he arrived and heard our accent he decided to call down an ex pat colleague to come meet us. They were the coolest pair of inspectors we have met. A couple of local bikers stopped to check out the bikes. We were a little shocked at the attention we were getting. We were escorted to the border by the inspectors, with a few other bikers riding with us.
Detroit was a City like nothing we have ever seen. Georgie had spent three weeks living with and talking to locals, so we had some local knowledge of the City. We stayed at the Motor City Casino, which was awesome. It stood out like a sore thumb among the rundown and abandoned streets and buildings. The Casino was full of great people who were a lot of fun. Luckily the Casino stopped serving alcohol at 2am. Our only saving grace. Pete's cousin Tony lives in Detroit and came out to dinner with us. He fitted right into our group, a great guy with a fantastic sense of humour.
We did an oil change on the bikes in the car park the next morning. Being naturally vague and hung over i put the wrong fluid in my bike. So the bike went into the back of the bus and i had to drive to Chicago.
Marsh let me ride his bike the last 60 miles into Chicago.
Chicago was one of the most beautiful cities i have ever visited, La La Palusa, the music festival was being hosted opposite our Hotel. People were everywhere. Again another late night and a sleep in, luckily we had an extra day to recover before riding out to Sturgis, almost 1600 K's.
We had an early night and hit the road about 7am. We covered nearly 420mile through some of the Mid Wests most beautiful land scapebefore setting up camp at an RV park for the night. We had a little one man tent each while Georgie set up her stretcher in the bus.
day 2 saw an early start as we decided to try and pick up an extra day to spend in Sturgis. All was going well until Haim's big bear hit trouble near a place called Mitchell. A local bike shop came straight out, picked us up and got straight to work repairing the bike ( a crook alternator).
The boys at Sabers choppers were awesome! We went next door for a BBQ dinner, then to a local bar for what ended up to be a great night out in a little country town.
Even though we had a delay with the bike we caught up to Georgie and still hit Sturgis a day early!!
