sturgis

Pete's attempt at planking at Niagara Falls

Even though we were held up with the bike repairs, we rode long days and made it to Sturgis a day early. Nothing any one tells you can prepare you for what you experience. Over 650,000 people visit Sturgis over the two week festival. The town is littered with bikes and all sort of colourful characters.

We stayed at a camp ground called Buffalo Chip. Hamish organised tickets that had us camping in the backstage area. we had complimentary food and drink, as well as access to an area at the front of the stage.

Buffalo Chip has a main stage, with bars, stores and amenities positioned around the perimeter. A flying fox runs over the centre of the public arena. Bikes are every where. People ride them to the concerts and sit on them while the bands play. Bikes are started and revved to within an inch of their lives if they approve of the bands performances. This makes for an incredible atmosphere, thousands of people, bikes, flying fox's loud music.

The crowd was fantastic. People from all over the world in the one spot with the same fun, positive attitude. You could walk up to the badest, meanest looking biker and end up talking for hours.

The concert would finish around 2am and the crowd would continue the party through out the night in the camp ground. Not a lot of sleep was had.
